Clarkdale Goes Solar
Based on the 2010 Census, Clarkdale has 2,059 housing units including single family homes and multi-family apartments. Of those, 35 single-family homes installed either solar water heating, solar electric or combination systems. This adjacent map locates the installations of the various systems located throughout the Town. (please click on map link for larger image)
Our Solar Challenge
In partnership with Arizona Smart Power, Clarkdale is seizing the Arizona Solar Challenge to install solar electric or heated water systems on up to 5% of the owner-occupied homes in Clarkdale by 2015. Because Arizona Public Service attributes Clarkdale installations to those located within zip code 86324, their records show a total of 49 installations for our Town. Because our census number of 2,059 housing units includes both owner-occupied and rented homes plus apartments, the base for determining our 5% goal is actually smaller, too. For estimating purposes, though, our target is no more than 103 homes in order to meet our goal. We’re well on our way!
With the Arizona Solar Challenge comes the free use of a solar coach to help residents with the process of installing solar systems. The coach can help the homeowner determine the costs of a possible system, the costs expected to be deferred with the installation of solar systems, and a list of possible installers working in the area. In addition to the free use of a solar coach, the Town will be promoted in media released by the Arizona SmartPower organization on the program. As Arizona SmartPower continues to work with the solar purchase and installation process, the Town and its residents will have access to the latest information about solar installations through the help of the solar coach. In addition, if so desired, Town residents who have already installed solar electric or heated water systems may also participate in the program as solar ambassadors, encouraging friends and neighbors with their solar installations.
